AUTHENTIC LEADERSHIP

In our fragmented world, holding creative space requires leadership - not just the familiar leadership we expect within hierarchical organisations but also the leadership contribution of all individuals towards the common good. In this, only the authentic self can bring about real changes – and only when appropriately deployed.

This principle operates at every scale, affecting the complex of beliefs, relationships and behaviours that overcomes fragmentation. It includes relationships between teams as well as between team members. On a macro scale, it includes leadership within partnerships, collaborations, joint ventures, mergers and communities of practice.

Leading Collaboration

If you are bringing people into relationship - merging companies, dismantling silos between departments or establishing new partnerships, there is a need to accelerate the development of productive interaction. It is tempting to say, ‘we will get around to relationships when we have sorted the mechanics’ but it is infinitely more effective to develop relationships at the same time as addressing structural change. By doing so, you will achieve payback results more quickly and your success will be more sustainable.

“A great learning and development experience.”

Example; Interactive workshop & follow-through

A financial services company approached CMC to enhance its relationship with a major client, to their mutual benefit. By getting together people at the interface from both organisations, it was possible for them to explore what a win-win outcome would look like and then to set about designing the steps to achieve it. This included removing causes of mistrust and developing transparency and communication. With sound foundations established, the relationship could flourish.

Leading Culture Change

Don't let your culture hold you back! Every living system has a huge investment in what it has become. Culture, comprising all the patterns of behaviour, assumptions, attitudes, values and beliefs, is often tacit in nature. Once people define what success looks like, they can work out how to achieve it and the whole system can change in concert towards greater effectiveness. A critical mass of change can bring about extraordinary organisational transformation.

“Thoroughly beneficial experience enabled me to understand the role I will play in creating our future together.”

Example; Intensive workshops & coaching support

A facilities maintenance company in telecommunications employed a very dispersed workforce, to be able to respond to emergencies as well as planned preventative maintenance. People rarely met. The company sought CMC’s help to meet this challenge. In a series of residential events, the maintenance engineers developed shared vision and values, ensuring that self-directed individuals could be entrusted to ‘fly the flag’ for the parent organisation. They themselves decided to form virtual teams, able to cover one another and respond appropriately whatever the circumstances.

The Art of Executive Leadership

Beyond the idea of a great leader who really gets things done, other kinds of leadership are becoming increasingly relevant in this age of increasing complexity and uncertainty. How do we tap into the potential of human beings to create the futures we desire? What is the wellspring of creativity?

The art of leadership is to be in touch with your authentic self and to deploy it in ways that inspire others. These programmes are designed to develop the attributes that enable people to lead in a changing world.

“A fantastic learning experience and a great opportunity to reflect and plan for the future.”

Example;

Public programme in association with The Banff Centre (Alberta)

The Art of Executive Leadership is a five-day residential programme, based at High Trenhouse. The programme can be run in-company on request. Use is made of artistic media to evoke new thinking in an atmosphere of serious play. Effectively the experience is of retreat from the world yet in a stimulating atmosphere that prepares you to re-enter the world in good shape, with new energy and vigour and with very fresh ideas.
